Training – SEP

The last three weeks have been non-stop as we have been completing the SEP (Safety and Emergency Procedures) part of our training. Most people say this is the hardest part of the entire training course, and I can definitely see why!

We have covered everything from firefighting to emergency landings and I have learnt so much about the two different aircrafts that we will be flying, the A380 and B777. Although the training has been difficult, it has been so much fun and we haven’t stopped laughing!

Emirates has one of the most incredible aviation training colleges with state of the art simulators and technology, it really is amazing to be training here. My batch got the unlucky pick up time of 5:00am which meant getting up at 3:30am every morning! Not ideal but after the first week, you kind of get into the routine.

So early!

The simulators are so realistic and give you such a real feel. In the simulators, we covered turbulence, decompression, emergency landings and fires.

Jump, slide and run for your life!

One of the most interesting days was ditching which is a term used to describe a crash landing into water. As part of our training we had to practice an emergency ditching evacuation and actually use the slide rafts and disconnect them from the aircraft. Although it was a fun activity, hopefully we will never been in that situation in real life.

After each of the practical sessions, we would go back to the classroom and have theory sessions covering all of the standard procedures. We’ve also had a number of exams both practical and theory which I am glad to say I passed every one! It has been challenging, especially trying to stay awake in classes and then study in the evenings, however, we all managed to do it. I’m now also a converted coffee drinker!

Essential!

We had the most fantastic trainers who have been so knowledgable, funny and motivating. They have really pushed us over the last three weeks and we are so grateful for all their hard work. Today was our last day of SEP and we rewarded ourselves with a pizza lunch. It was such a lovely way to finish this part of the training and we are all looking forward to the next couple of weeks where we will cover medical, security and service training!

Thanks for reading.
