It’s been a while since I posted as I was had 10 days annual leave and its taken a while to get back into the swing of things! Just before my leave, I had two back to back flights to Moscow and I didn’t get a chance to write up a post, so here goes…
I have always wanted to visit Moscow so I was really looking forward to this trip. I knew it would be absolutely freezing cold, but I was quite excited to feel the cold Russian air and experience what winter is like there! We departed Dubai in the afternoon and arrived in Moscow around 9pm. I ordered some room service and then headed for bed.

The next morning, I ordered some breakfast to my room and then got ready for a day of sightseeing. I made sure I had my thermals on and about 5 other layers as it was snowing outside – still nothing could prepare me!!

The walk from the hotel to the metro station was only 10 minutes but it felt like an hour! The cold had gone right through me and I was already struggling at this point. I got the train from Dynamo station into the city.

4 stops later, I found myself in the heart of the city. I walked towards the Red Square and I was so impressed at all the palatial buildings and churches. There were so many beautiful buildings and the square was still very much decorated for Christmas as they celebrate Christmas in January.

Of course, the most beautiful building is St. Basil’s Cathedral which is just so colourful and unique!
I then had a wander in the GUM shopping mall right by the square which has a lot of luxury, boutique shops. It was beautifully decorated, but not very warm inside so I didn’t hang around long.

By this point, I was shaking with the cold and wasn’t really enjoying it, so I decided to go back to the hotel. I think the cold had gone through to my bones as I was aching all over! No matter how many layers I had on, it didn’t help. I walked back to the station and then got the metro back to the hotel.
The rest of the afternoon, I relaxed in bed and focused on warming up!! The flight back to Dubai was good and then the following day I was back again on the same flight to Moscow! I probably should have tried swapping the second Moscow flight because I didn’t end up doing anything. After the first trip, I did not fancy bracing the weather so I ended up staying in the hotel room for the whole layover! I was very glad as I checked the weather and it was even colder than the day I went out…

Despite the cold, I had an amazing time in Moscow. It was everything I expected it to be and I would really love to go back in the summer and explore a bit more of the city.
Thanks for reading.
