It’s been a while since my lost post, namely due to my annual recurrent SEP exams, a flight to Paris and a very special staycation to Fujairah. At the beginning of July, Mamdouh and I decided to take a few days away from Dubai and visit Fujairah. Fujairah is one of the seven Emirates that make up the UAE and it is located far out into the east, along the Gulf of Oman. Since there are so many ‘staycation’ deals on at the moment, we decided to make the most of the cheaper prices and book up a stay at the Intercontinental Hotel on Al Aqah Beach.
The drive from Dubai took around an hour and a half – mostly on one straight road through the beautiful Hajar Mountains. We arrived at the hotel around 12pm and was given an early check in which was lovely! Our room was very impressive and we had a stunning sea view. I compared quite a few different hotels in Fujairah, but the Intercontinental always came out on top.
We changed straight away into our swimwear and made our way down to the swimming pool. We got our beds and then spent the rest of the day in and out of the pool. There were two swimming pools – the infinity pool and the family pool. We spent most of the day at the infinity pool, then discovered the family pool in the evening which we actually preferred! We had lunch, poolside and then played a game of table tennis. We stayed until about 5pm, before heading back up to the room to get ready for the evening.
That evening, we booked a table at a seafood restaurant along the beach. I had the surprise of my life as Mamdouh proposed to me! You can read all about the engagement here as I wrote a separate post about it! We had the most amazing evening and it was the best way to kick off our little holiday.
The next morning, after a cup of tea on the balcony we made our way downstairs for another day lounging by the pool. We had originally planned to go kayaking and snorkelling over at Snoopy Island, which is only next door to the hotel, but with all the excitement from last night, we just wanted to relax and enjoy our day rather than doing activities. We spent the whole day in and out of the pool as well as a dip in the sea but it was a little bit rough so we went back to the pool!
Later on in the evening, we booked to use the tennis courts at the hotel. We booked them at 7pm, and even at the time it was still boiling hot, so after about 30 minutes, we called it a day and went back up to the room. I do love playing tennis, but it is just so hot outside at the moment in the UAE!
This evening, we had dinner outside of the hotel at a lovely little fish restaurant called Estacoza – it was opposite the hotel on the main street and it was really busy so we thought it must have been good! The food was delicious and it was so much cheaper than what we would have paid at a fish restaurant in Dubai!
The next day was check out day, however, the hotel kindly said we could use all of the facilities for as long as we wanted. We wasn’t quite ready to head back to Dubai so we stayed at the pool for most of the day, soaking up the last bit of sun! We stayed at the family pool as it was much more quiet and enjoyed every last moment.
We finally made our way back to Dubai around 5pm after the most amazing 2 nights away. The Intercontinental Hotel was completely faultless and I am so glad we stayed there. Fujairah itself was lovely and felt so much more relaxed and laid back compared to Dubai. We had a wonderful time and it was so nice to have a break away after so many months stuck inside!
