December 2020 Roster: Reserve Round Two

As we are approaching the end of December 2020, I thought it would be a good idea to post my roster. I have been on ‘Reserve’ for the whole month – for anyone who doesn’t know what Reserve is, you can read all about it here. Normally, December is the busiest month of the year with lots of people flying around the world to join their families in time for Christmas and the New Year. Unfortunately for me, being on Reserve has been very quiet, and so far, I’ve only had 2 flights the whole month!

As you can see, I still have a couple days left of reserve so I will update the list accordingly *Update my reserve has now ended and I have updated the list – sooooo many days off!*

My first flight of the month was to Moscow in Russia where it was a very cold minus 8 degrees! The layover was just 24 hours and we are still not able to leave the hotel on layovers so I stayed in my room, ordering room service (Borscht soup is my new favourite!) and watching TV. Luckily, I have been to the beautiful Moscow before so I didn’t feel like I was missing out too much.

Next up, I had a whopping 77 hour layover to Cape Town in South Africa! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw how long the layover was – if only I had this flight back in February when my Mum came along with me!! Before the flight, all the crew has to be tested for COVID-19. A nurse from the hospital came to each of our apartments before the flight to test us – this is a requirement from the South African Government. Fortunately, my test came back negative which meant I was good to go. I’m not sure how I managed to pass 77 hours in a hotel room, but again, lots of room service, TV, calling home and sleep!

Since those two flights, I have had 10 days off which is unbelievable considering it is December! I was convinced I would get a flight over Christmas but it seems like the aviation industry is still struggling. I was very happy to get Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off though as I have never spent it in Dubai so I was really happy about that. Tomorrow is my first home standby day so we shall see how that turns out! I have to stay at home and just keep checking my roster to see if anything pops up. I’m not expecting anything but who knows.

It really has been a weird old year but I am so grateful to still have a job and to have my health. It’s been very quiet here on my blog over the last couple of months because the reality is, not a lot has been happening. Rosters come and go and so do flights but I am really hoping that 2021 is a much better year for all.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Oh wonderful. It is interesting during this pandemic and you still got nice layover like Cape town . Hopefully you will get nice layover soon during new year.
