It was time for another multi-sector trip and this time I was off to Milan-New York! I managed to swap my Sydney flight for a 5 day trip to Milan, and then to New York. When my swap got approved, I was over the moon and I had been looking forward to this trip for the whole month. I have only recently got my US visa and I couldn’t have thought of a better place to visit in the US first.
The first part of the trip was a 6 hour flight to Milan. We stayed in Milan for 24 hours and then flew to New York. I will write a separate post for New York which you can find here.
We arrived in Milan at around 1pm. The weather was beautiful so lots of the crew were keen to go out and explore. We all changed, and then met in the reception an hour later.
We got the train to Milano Cadorna and then walked to the famous Duomo di Milano. The cathedral was beautiful and the atmosphere around the area was really nice. We stayed there for a while taking photos and taking in the views.
We then walked to the nearby Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which is the oldest shopping mall in Milan and is known for it most luxurious brands. In the centre of the mall, on the floor, there is a small bull and it is a tradition to step on the bull and rotate three times. There were loads of people doing it as apparently it brings good luck so of course I had to try it myself!
Next, it was time for a gelato stop and one of the Italian crew recommended a place just down the street. I went for coconut (my fave) and salted caramel gelato- delish!
We carried on walking around and then stopped off for a drink as it was a bit early for dinner. When in Milan, we all had to have an Aperol spritz!
The Italian crew said we should all go to have ‘aperitivo’ in a place called Navigli. Aperitivo is basically a traditional Italian buffet after 6pm and in Navigli, the streets are lined with small restaurants serving this. We chose one at random and then sat outside. The price includes the full buffet and a drink, so we all got another Aperol spritz!
After this, it was then time to head back to the hotel and get some rest before our flight to New York the next day. I ordered some room service for breakfast and then shortly after started getting ready for the flight. I was sooooo excited for New York and hadn’t looked forward to a flight this much in a while!
We then spent 24 hours in New York. After New York, we returned back to Milan for another 24 hours before coming back to Dubai. After New York, I was absolutely exhausted from all the walking around so I decided to stay in the hotel in Milan for most of the layover to catch up with sleep!
I ventured out to the supermarket nearby to stock up on some Italian biscuits and chocolate and then came back and ordered room service!
I had an amazing time in Milan, especially the first day visiting the Duomo and eating lots of good food! I would definitely like to come back here in the summer and visit Lake Como as it is only a train ride away.
